It surprised me over the holidays that some of my family members had never experienced ChatGPT or anything AI. A few kids used ChatGPT to help with (or do) their homework (much to the surprise of their parents), but the adults had only heard of it and had no real experience. AI will soon touch our everyday lives, and like the internet, we’ll all wonder one day how we got along without it.
ChatGPT is my daily “go-to” for content ideas, coding help, etc. If you haven’t jumped on board with it, it’s worth spending time with it. Some still think you need unique prompts to get AI to do what you desire. While that’s still the case in some instances, ChatGPT is probably the most forgiving and “life-like.” You talk to it like any regular person, and it responds in a way a person (or expert) would.
How ChatGPT Can Help Your Radio Station
1. Programming and On-Air
Script Writing and Show Prep: ChatGPT can assist in generating creative content for scripts, show outlines, and topic ideas. Ask it to create a list of show topics for the week. Keep the thread alive to learn your specific style over time.
Interview Preparation: Utilize ChatGPT to research topics and generate exciting questions for guest interviews.
2. News and Editorial
News Summarization: AI tools can quickly summarize articles and news stories, helping journalists prepare news segments efficiently. AI can transcribe and completely rewrite news stories from other sources to avoid plagiarism or copyright issues.
Fact-Checking: ChatGPT can be used for preliminary fact-checking and gathering background information on news stories. When fact-checking, it’s best to use multiple sources.
Lead Generation Ideas: ChatGPT can suggest creative approaches for generating advertising leads and brainstorming sales strategies.
Drafting Sales Pitches and Emails: Use AI to draft initial versions of sales pitches and outreach emails, saving time and resources.
Script Writing: Give ChatGPT a background on the client’s business and a theme or style and ask it to write the script for you. Keep a chat for each client so that it uses the same information each time.
I still voice several radio commercials each year, and I recently used ChatGPT to help with a multiple-voice commercial that I needed help with. The two characters were over-the-top rednecks, so I had to provide a little insight about them. The script it provided sounded like them to a tee. It wasn’t perfect, but we used about 60% of what it offered.
Once you get your script the way you like it, hop over to ElevenLabs to have AI voice it. More and more stations are jumping on board with this to avoid stop sets filled with the same voice.
If you’re impressed with what ChatGPT can do with a script and ElevenLabs for voice, check out RadioWorkflow. They integrate AI into every aspect of their system, allowing you to hear an AI-written and voiced commercial from a simple prompt or even an image.
4. Marketing and Promotions
Social Media Content Generation: Use AI tools to generate initial drafts of social media posts, promotional content, and campaign ideas.
Market Research and Trends Analysis: ChatGPT can assist in gathering insights on market trends and listener preferences.
Survey and Poll Creation: Use AI to draft surveys and polls to gather listener feedback and preferences.
5. Administration and HR
Drafting Administrative Documents: ChatGPT can help draft routine documents, emails, and reports.
Employee Engagement Ideas: Generate ideas for team-building activities or internal communications.
How ChatGPT Can Help Your Website
Now that we’ve covered how ChatGPT can help your radio station, let’s focus specifically on your website. ChatGPT ’s versatility makes it an invaluable asset for radio station websites to create a more engaging, informative, and interactive experience for listeners. Here’s how ChatGPT can help your website…
Blog Post Creation: Whether it’s about the latest music trends, artist interviews, or behind-the-scenes insights, ChatGPT can help draft compelling blog posts that keep listeners coming back. Yes, ChatGPT helped me write this article.
Idea Generation: Stuck in a content rut? It can suggest innovative ideas for podcasts, features, and special segments, keeping the content calendar vibrant and diverse.
SEO-Friendly Content: It can assist in creating content that is not only engaging but also optimized for search engines, helping to boost the website’s visibility and attract a wider audience.
Keyword Suggestions: It can recommend keywords and topics likely to drive website traffic by analyzing trends and user queries.
Image Creation: Paste in your news story and ask ChatGPT to generate an appropriate image. Getting it right may take a few times, but the article will be more engaging with an exciting image. The image creation within ChatGPT is good, but other image AI services are out there. My “go-to” for that is Midjourney.
While AI tools like ChatGPT are powerful, their output should be verified for accuracy, especially in news and factual content. Never copy and paste anything from AI. Use it as it’s meant to be – a tool to help you do better work. It is not something that does the work for you.
Search engines are being programmed to penalize AI-generated content (mainly text). That means the scores will decrease when they find it, and your site will be more difficult to search. So, it’s essential to customize the output they provide.
ChatGPT is free to try out, but their $20/month paid tier is well worth the expense. By integrating AI tools like ChatGPT into your workflow, radio stations can improve efficiency, stimulate creative processes, and enhance audience engagement. Just be mindful of the limitations and ethical considerations.
