The “Series Strategy” That Turns One Idea Into 10x Traffic

One of the most common patterns I see on radio station websites is this cycle of constantly starting over. A story gets posted, it does okay for a day or two, and then it fades into the background as the next piece goes up. By the end of the week, you’ve published several things, but none of them build on each other.

That approach makes sense in a broadcast mindset. Radio has always been about what’s happening right now. You do the break, you move on, and tomorrow is a clean slate. Websites don’t have to work that way.

The sites that grow traffic over time aren’t just publishing content—they’re building familiarity. They give people a reason to come back because there’s something recognizable waiting for them.

That’s where a series strategy comes in.

What a “Series” Really Means

A series isn’t complicated, and it doesn’t require a big staff or a long-term editorial calendar. It’s simply taking one idea and committing to doing it consistently.  For example, I recently did a podcast series on “Metrics that Matter” and we’re in the middle of another right now called “Single Focus“.  Similar content and mindset with a different topic each week.

Instead of asking what you’re going to post today, you decide on something you’re going to post over a period of time: every week, or even every day, and you stick with it long enough for it to matter.

For example, a station might choose to feature a “High School Game of the Week.” Another might build a recurring “What’s Happening This Weekend” post that goes up every Thursday. Some stations have had great success with simple ideas like a local business spotlight or even a “Pet of the Week” feature.

None of these requires a newsroom. What they require is consistency and a willingness to treat content as something that builds over time rather than something that disappears after 24 hours.

Why This Works So Well

There are a few reasons this approach consistently outperforms one-off posts.

First, it creates a habit. When someone sees the same type of content show up regularly, they start to expect it. That’s when you move from occasional traffic to repeat visitors.

Second, it sends strong signals to search engines. When you publish content around a consistent theme, using similar titles and structure, it becomes much easier for search engines to understand what your site is about and when to surface your content.

And third, it makes your life easier. Instead of reinventing the wheel every day, your team knows what they’re working on. That alone removes a lot of the friction that keeps stations from posting consistently in the first place.

Consistent, structured content is one of the biggest drivers of long-term growth, both in search visibility and audience engagement .

How to Put This Into Practice This Week

If you want to try this without overthinking it, start small. Pick one idea that makes sense for your station and your audience. It should be something local, something you can sustain, and something your on-air team can easily support.

Commit to publishing it on a set schedule. The timing matters more than you might think. When content shows up predictably, it reinforces that habit with your audience.

Keep the naming consistent. If it’s “Restaurant of the Week,” don’t change it to “Local Eats Spotlight” the next time. That consistency helps both your audience and search engines connect the dots.

Finally, tie it back to your on-air product. If you’re talking about it on the radio, make sure you’re pointing people to it online. That connection is where the real growth happens.

The Bigger Shift

At the end of the day, this is really about changing how you think about your website.

Instead of treating it like a place where content goes, start treating it like a place where content grows.

A single post might get you a spike. A series builds momentum. And over time, that momentum is what turns a quiet website into something that actually drives traffic, engagement, and revenue.
